Still (from Under Willows. Over Flowers.)

Still

Rain rolled off her wings

Crystalized drops that broke

On the asphalt

As she sat

In hero pose

Hands put together

In prayer

Like two closed wings

In honor

To those

Who have come before,

Are here now,

And those

That will surely come.

She sat

In deep reflection

With eyes closed

As the winds rose

And thunder crumbled

Around her

Grateful for

The love of those

Who have come before,

Are here now,

And those

That will surely come.

For they

Have made her steady;

Rocks to rest upon;

Anchors to hold her down,

As the trees bent

The world turned

Her hair whipping

In tornado curls

As she sat

Still

Within this torrential storm.
